A Fathers Retreat
June 14, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - June 15, 2019 @ 7:00 pm
Join us for a Retreat for fathers of all ages and all stages of life. The retreat will begin at 7pm on Friday evening with an opening session by Fr. Rick Ganz (including dessert!). Participants will leave at 9pm and go home for the night, and then return in the morning at 8:30am to continue the Retreat. The Retreat will conclude by 4:30pm on Saturday afternoon when participants will return home to continue in “Retreat mode” with their families.
The annual Fathers Retreat in June is the “other half”, if you will, of the annual Mothers Retreat given each year in early May. And what is “best” (though of course not necessary) is that a mom attends the Retreat in May and her husband attends the Retreat in June – a mutual enriching of both in their foundational roles in society as parents. As a “Retreat”, both retreats have the same end: to invite and make possible for the retreatants an encounter with God of greater depth and beauty than normal, done in silence both alone and with the other retreatants, and guided through Talks and Conversations and in Quiet into fresh ways of considering in Christ the meaning and practice of each one’s identity as man, as woman, and in their roles as father and mother.
The structure of the Fathers Retreat is skillfully in the hands of Fr. Ganz, SJ, who has special gifts and capacities at knowing how to lead a group into the depths in accessible, surprising, and widely enriching ways. Enjoy a day “set aside” for you with God, and with other fathers who are doing this also – on the day before the celebration of Fathers’ Day. C.S. Lewis wrote: “We live, in fact, in a world starved for solitude, silence, and privacy: and therefore starved for meditation and true friendship.” And in another place, “Nothing, I suspect, is more astonishing in a man’s life than the discovery that there do exist men very, very like himself.” And, finally, Lewis notes, “You cannot love a fellow-creature fully until you love God.”
Please RSVP below so that we can add you to the attendee list and keep you updated on details. There is no set Retreat “fee” (we do not want anyone to be excluded due to a cost!), but any donations to the Faber Institute would be appreciated.
