Night School for Deeper Learning with Rene Girard (Series VIII, Session I)
January 19 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
FreeThe Night School is an experience of deep thought. This spiritual exercise activates in those who attend a longing for more depth of life and cultivates in them a greater capacity to explore with intellect and feeling the profound riches of the deep Tradition. In each class, the group is introduced to a new “guest” who were/are profound thinkers or missionaries or musicians or architects or philosophers or painters or poets or theologians or mystics. In sum, The Night School is meant to be enjoyable, even startling at times (surprised by the wisdom and beauty we have available to us when given a chance to experience it), and most of all to be an experience of God.
Our “special guest” for the first class of Series 8 is Rene Girard (1923-2015), one of the most distinguished thinkers in the world about culture – what it is; what it is for; how it goes awry; and, most trenchantly, about how violence and religion get interwoven. His work has been enormously influential (for the good!) across many disciplines, and perhaps especially for Theology and Biblical Studies. To listen to Girard is to experience often intense astonishment at the power, and genuine helpfulness, of his ideas.
This class will be held online via Zoom. Please RSVP below to receive more information prior to the class.
