Faber Session: Lessons from Carols of Advent and Christmas
December 1, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - December 15, 2020 @ 7:30 pmFree
When news of the birth of Christ was announced to the shepherds “keeping watch over their flocks by night”, it was done so by an angel. Perhaps it was no less than the Archangel Gabriel, who had looked after this great Mystery of the Incarnation from the beginning, when he had visited Mary in Nazareth, asking her a question, the Question. And, nine months later, when that Angel had announced Christ’s birth to the shepherds, the heavens above suddenly filled, from end to end, with rank upon rank of Angels, who as they appeared, incandescent with the “glory of God”, began to sing! – “And suddenly, there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying/singing: ‘Glory to God in the highest!'” (Luke 2:13).
Perhaps from the earliest days, Christians, throughout the Advent-Christmas season, have sung in the Mystery, as if in deliberate imitation of the Angels. The sacred “songbook” of Advent and Christmas contains some of the most beautiful poetry set to music that is available to us in the world. Join us for our fourth of the Faber Sessions, happening on the first three Tuesday evenings in December. Rick will “read”, and find the lessons within, the great carols of the Advent-Christmas season.
We will meet via ZOOM on the following Tuesday evenings of December: the 1st, 8th and 15th; 6 PM to 7:30 PM (Pacific Daylight Time).
Please RSVP below to let us know you are interested in this series. You do not have to be able to commit to every Tuesday evening in order to come to any of them.
